I’m thrilled to share an interview I did with the Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (ATLIS) on their podcast, “Talking Technology with ATLIS.” It was a fantastic opportunity to dive deep into the topics that I’m most passionate about: education, technology, and inclusivity.

In this episode, hosted by the amazing Christina Lewellen and Hiram Cuevas, I had the chance to reflect on my journey from being a music teacher to my current role as Director of Technology at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School. We discussed how I’ve seen technology transform our school since 2008, making us an Apple Distinguished School with a one-to-one iPad program starting in kindergarten. It’s been a journey of growth, innovation, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

One of the highlights of the conversation was discussing the evolution of Miami Device, the professional development event I founded, into ShiftinEdu, which I now co-host with my awesome partner, Inge Wassmann. ShiftinEdu is a global event that gathers educators to explore current trends and best practices in education technology. I reminisced about the early days of the conference, the incredible support from my head of school, Silvia Larrauri, and the amazing feedback from participants worldwide. It’s always been about creating an experience that resonates with educators and inspires them to bring new ideas and tools back to their classrooms.

We also touched on the challenges and opportunities of integrating AI into education, especially in an elementary school setting. While we are cautious about how we introduce AI to young learners, we are excited about the potential it holds for enhancing teaching and learning.

On a personal note, this interview was a blast! Christina and Hiram made me feel right at home, and the conversation flowed so naturally. It was like catching up with old friends who share the same passion for making a difference in education through technology. I even got to share a bit about my musical background and some fun experiences, like being part of the Florida Grand Opera choir as well as singing on stage with Luciano Pavarotti.

I’m incredibly thankful to be part of the ATLIS community. It’s a network of forward-thinking, innovative leaders who are all committed to improving education. The support and camaraderie in this community are unmatched, and I always come away from these interactions feeling inspired and energized.

If you haven’t listened to the episode yet, I highly recommend it. You can find the link to the podcast here. It’s a deep dive into my journey, the transformative power of technology in education, and the incredible work we are doing at St. Stephen’s. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed being part of it.

Thank you to everyone at ATLIS for this wonderful opportunity. Here’s to continuing our journey of innovation and excellence in education together!
