.cat is the top-level domain for Catalonia, an autonomous region in Spain where its official language is Catalan. After having gone to Barcelona for only two days in the summer of 2018, I knew I had to return. As my February 2019 return approached, I became more and more interested (ok, I'll admit it... obsessed would be more accurate) in everything Catalan - food, people, music, culture, history, art, and the language!

Yes, Catalan is a language, not a dialect of Spanish. Of course, there are many, many similarities between the two but there are also many shared components of this language with French, Italian, Portuguese and probably others. Learning about its roots has given me a new appreciation for the evolution of languages.

To best document all the ways I was digging into my newfound interest, I started a blog. As I was visiting a Catalan website, I noticed it ended in .cat. And when your name is Felix, you will have heard a reference to Felix the Cat one or two million times in your life. Then sure enough, the domain name I was hoping would be available was!
